On What Do You Rely When the Crunch Hits?

Gal 5:1-6 / Lk 11:37-41

As we walk, and sometimes stumble, through life’s various challenges, we generally have in the back of our minds some thought about what we’re walking into and why we should be OK. In walking into a business meeting or onto a podium, we might be saying to ourselves, “I’m going to be all right, because I know I’m prepared.” In riding into a party of marauding natives, we might be saying, “I’ve got a good chance here, because I’m a good shot and well armed, and they aren’t.”

The examples can be multiplied endlessly, but they only go so far. They don’t get to that core question: What can I absolutely count on in the end? There’s only one adequate answer to that question: The Lord to whom I am connected and bonded by confident faith. The Lord alone; there is no other.

That’s the truth, but it seems that we continue to search for substitutes. Don’t waste your time. Bond your heart to the Lord who loves us even more than we love ourselves. He merits your trust. When the crunch comes, you won’t be disappointed!
