Through Him All Things Were Made!

John 1:3
All things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.

One of the most intensely mysterious revelations of Scripture is summed up in today’s verse: the teaching that “through” the Son, God the Father made everything.  One of the hints about what this strange preposition might mean is given in Proverbs, which speaks of the “Wisdom” of God being present at God’s side at the foundation of the world: “When He marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside Him, like a master workman;
and I was daily His delight,
rejoicing before Him always, rejoicing in His inhabited world
and delighting in the sons of men” (Prv 8:29-31).  As is typical, Scripture is not interested in How, When, or What questions concerning Creation.  It is interested in Who and Why.  The Who question is answered by John: Jesus is the one imaged by Wisdom in Proverbs.  But as to Why, Proverbs gives the amazing answer: Delight!  The world was made by God through the Son for sheer delight!  Today, delight yourself in the One Who delights in you!
