St. Oswald

Revered for having helped restore English monasticism in the tenth century, St. Oswald was in fact born in Denmark. By the authority eventually given to him as Archbishop of York Oswald fought daily against the greed, corruption and sexual immorality that had taken hold throughout the monasteries of England. He also improved the educational standards of the clergy. Oswald died literally in the act of serving the poor, on February 29, 992.
