Known for his methodical reasoning and humility, he sought to harmonize faith and reason, always recognizing that true wisdom ultimately comes from God. He died in 1274 en route to the Second Council of Lyon, leaving behind a profound legacy as a Doctor of the Church and patron of Catholic schools and universities.
