St. Narcissus was born in the second century and became Bishop of Jerusalem around the year 180. Known for his holiness, wisdom, and strict life of prayer, he guided the Church during a time of persecution and growth. Tradition tells us that he once performed a miracle at the Easter Vigil, when the lamps of the faithful ran out of oil—he instructed them to fill the lamps with water, and through God’s power, the lamps burned brightly all night. Despite his sanctity, Narcissus faced false accusations and slander, which caused him to withdraw into solitude for several years. Eventually, he was cleared of all charges and returned to his ministry, continuing to lead with humility and devotion even into extreme old age. He lived past 100 years and left a legacy of faithfulness, prayer, and trust in God.

- Respond to Trials with Patience: Narcissus was falsely accused but did not retaliate. In our lives, we can respond to misunderstandings or criticism with patience, trusting that God will reveal the truth in time.
- Trust God’s Power: The miracle of the Easter lamps reminds us that God provides when resources seem scarce. Today, this inspires us to trust Him with our needs—whether financial, physical, or spiritual—believing He can provide in unexpected ways.
- Persevere in Faith with Age: Narcissus continued serving the Church even in old age. We, too, are called to remain faithful and active in our prayer and service no matter our stage in life, offering our wisdom and witness to others.

St. Narcissus, holy bishop and faithful servant of Christ, intercede for us that we may endure trials with patience, trust God’s power to provide, and remain steadfast in faith all our days. Help us to grow in holiness and to shine the light of Christ in the world. Amen.
