The Effects of the Sacrament of Matrimony!

Ephesians 5:24-27

As the church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

Pope John Paul II tells us that Marriage–in addition to being for the fruitfulness found in bringing into the world and nurturing new human beings made in the image of God–is also ordered toward the “healing, perfection, and exaltation” of the spouses. Husband and wife are to be “subject to one another out of reverence for Christ” not “subject to one another in a dog-eat-dog struggle for power.” Christian Marriage is intended by God to build us up and make us means of sacramental grace to each other, our children and the world around us. Today, ask God to pour out his grace on the world through the Sacrament of Marriage.
