We Must Love our Neighbor at the Polls, Too

We in the US are appalled at terrorist killings throughout the world that brutally target random groups of men, women, and children belonging to nations or cultures that some in Islam deem unacceptable to Allah. Of all attacks to date, the September 11, 2001 strikes in the US have been the single most deadly, killing approximately 3,000 innocent human beings and damaging the lives of countless others.

By unhappy coincidence, 3,000 happens to be the closest thousand below the number of human beings deliberately killed in their mothers’ wombs within the US, each and every day of the year — and done so legally. Though, surely, Americans as a whole have scant familiarity with the Koran, not very many would be unaware that the Bible iterates God’s COMMAND for all to love God first and foremost and secondly to “love your neighbor as yourself.” Of these commands, Jesus said, “The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments” (cfr Mt 22: 34-40).

Yet, in a nation largely familiar with God’s requirement of loving our neighbor, the daily 3,000+ abortions are the foundation of a lucrative industry that has cozy ties throughout the three branches of the federal government and communication media. The abortion law of the land, courtesy of Supreme Court construal, places a woman bearing a child into the legally-authorized, potentially-precarious position of being able — uniquely — to order that her child be aborted, murdered. The legality of that “right” successfully tempts many men, determined to avoid the responsibilities of fatherhood, to place as much threatening pressure on a scared, pregnant woman as it takes to “break” her natural inclination to bear her baby, until, sadly and fearfully, she “orders” abortion. Then, there are two victims.  There are also cases where a man desires to “man up,” do the right thing and own his fatherhood of the developing baby, but the woman, having absorbed the media propaganda – “not really a human being”, “my body” – decides to snuff out the life of her child.  Again, two victims.

But who, really, are allowing these injustices to happen? Who could stop it, and do so decisively and promptly? It’s easy to answer such a question by just observing that 50% of Americans eligible to vote decline — each election day — to go to the polls and exercise their voting rights. That 50%, of course, is equivalent to all the votes shared by contending office seekers of both political parties. These non-voters’ unused power, truly, is massive, in fact, decisive. Meanwhile, callous politicians catering to the culture of death win elections by scant margins, but enough to continue $hamele$$, $elf-$erving catering to the abortion indu$try! So the 50% of Americans who don’t exercise their voting privileges permit the continued, daily intimidation of many pregnant women and the massacre of 3,000+ of their innocent, defenseless, unborn human beings each and every day in the USA.

But God COMMANDED: Love your neighbor! Such risky disobedience here. God is love. God is merciful.  But God is also just. He is just toward the frightened mother and her aborted baby, toward the contrite man who cannot erase from his mind his impotency in protecting the life he brought into being. He is just toward these who are your neighbors and mine, American voters. Consider if this justice will not top presumptions of mercy by any who — indifferent to love of neighbor — would fail to exert themselves to go to the polls and vote for leaders with the hearts to spare these innocent neighbors headed for death.

Love your neighbor as yourself – vote pro-life.
