The Three Degrees of the Sacrament of Holy Orders!

1 Timothy 3:1

The saying is sure: If any one aspires to the office of bishop, he desires a noble task.

There are three degrees of the ordained office: bishop, priest and deacon. They are degrees of service, not degrees of dignity. One does not get closer to God by being ordained, nor further away by being lay. As Augustine said, “I am a priest for you. I am a Christian with you.” That said, these three offices are terribly important and terribly difficult one and those who aspire to them do indeed aspire to do a noble task. Today, pray that God give your bishop the grace he needs to do his work, and that he raise up priests (perhaps from your own home!) and deacons who will do their office faithfully and with a holy heart.
