Another Advocate writer compares Ronald Reagan to Adolf Hitler. The Advocate, a national homosexual newsmagazine, named Dr. James Dobson, First Lady Laura Bush, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Boston Sean O’Malley, Republican Rep. Marilyn Musgrave of Colorado (the primary sponsor of the Federal Marriage Amendment, or FMA), and presidential advisor Karl Rove to a list of the “most dangerous people in America.”
The Advocate bestowed the titles in the June 22 issue, which criticizes Archbishop O’Malley for “pouring money into fighting marriage equality [i.e., “gay” marriage] in Massachusetts” and James Dobson and Marilyn Musgrave for their support of the FMA.
Others named were Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliff (for not doing enough to promote homosexual issues), former Rep. Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma), who is running for the U.S. Senate and endorsing abstinence programs, U.S. global AIDS coordinator Randall Tobias (for not pushing condoms), and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (for exposing the potential ill effects of overturning Texas’ anti-sodomy law).
“If this had been a conservative group, the press would have denounced it as an ‘enemies list,’” said Robert Knight, director of Concerned Women for America’s Culture & Family Institute. “Articles of this sort clearly reveal the intolerance of the pansexual Left, even as they bray about ‘diversity’ and ‘inclusiveness.’”
“The Most Dangerous People in America,” was compiled by author and Air America Radio host Laura Flanders. It includes a caricature of each individual the publication says the “gay” community and its proponents should fear.
The list mostly depicts individuals working to protect marriage and support abstinence education in public schools. To a conservative individual, much of the text may seem to be written in a comical, sarcastic tone. For example, Flanders says, “Former librarian Laura lulls socially moderate voters into believing that all appearances not withstanding the White House is not in the clutches of an extremist religious cult,” and portrays Mrs. Bush as a hypocrite for saying she and the president have “gay” friends.
Though seemingly comical and sarcastic, the article is not intended to amuse, but to broadcast a “warning.”
The bashing continued in the July 6 issue of The Advocate, with an article titled “Adolf Reagan,” equating the late President Ronald Reagan with Adolf Hitler. Writer Larry Kramer blames Reagan for the “holocaust” of the AIDS epidemic, calling him “the man who murdered more ‘gay’ people than anyone else in the entire history of the world.”
“Our hearts can go out to a guy like Larry Kramer, who is suffering with AIDS, but like many other homosexual activists, he blames everybody for AIDS except those who engage in the dangerous behavior,” Knight said. “It’s always someone else’s fault.”
Kramer asserts, “Gays were as hated under Reagan as Jews were under Hitler,” and claims that Presidents George Bush and George W. Bush have carried on the hatred. He credits “exceedingly embarrassing” suspicions revolving around Ron Reagan Jr.’s sexuality as the source of President Reagan’s “hatred” of “gay people.”
Reagan actively allowed the spread of the AIDS epidemic, Kramer says. “Because of [Reagan], some 70 million people so far have become infected with HIV/AIDS.” When asked by People magazine for a quote on Reagan’s death, Kramer responded, “I wish he had died before he was elected.”
“It’s a pity that so many people remain in denial about the real cause of this pandemic which is behaviorally based and could have been greatly diminished if AIDS activists had not consistently defeated sound medical procedures (such as testing and partner tracing) for dealing with epidemics,” Knight said. “Blaming Ronald Reagan for the ravages of a sexually transmitted disease is absurd and wrong.”
