A homosexual advocacy group has compiled a list of US television networks, which are ranked according to the amount of homosexuality portrayed in their programming between June 1st, 2008 and May 31st, 2009.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) ranked HBO at the top of their third annual Network Responsibility Index as the most pro-homosexual network. ABC came out on top for major broadcasting networks, with 24 percent of its programming having homosexuals portrayed in a positive light.
The CW and Fox networks ranked second and third respectively, though GLAAD suggested that Fox, which last year received a “failing grade” from the group for not showing enough homosexuality, had aired some “problematic” representations of the “gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender (GLBT)” lifestyle.
The lowest GLAAD ratings were given to CBS, with five percent GLBT-inclusive content, while among the ten cable networks TBS came last, with half an hour of GLBT-inclusive broadcasting.
The Parents Television Council (PTC), an education organization advocating responsible entertainment with more than 1.3 million members across the United States, says that individuals who contact network executives, along with advertisers, have a huge impact on television programming.
In their effort to clean up prime-time television, the group encourages viewers who are concerned about programming being hijacked by homosexualists, or who wish to compliment a network on tasteful and family-friendly programming, to express their opinion to key decision-makers.
“Decide which network and prime time show(s) you wish to comment on … Then take action! Write a short note, call, or send an e-mail. Every telephone call, letter, and e-mail really does make a difference!” the PTC website urges.
“Name the show, tell them if you approve or disapprove of it, give your reasons why, say if you will or will not watch the show, tell them you are contacting the advertisers and your local network affiliates as well, and say you support the efforts of the Parents Television Council.”
The PTC website contains contact information for all US broadcast and cable networks and their affiliates.
