Catholic Writers Online, an online support network for Catholics interested in communicating with like-minded writers, launched its new website and discussion list in February, 2004. Nearly 150 writers from around the United States and Canada have already joined; the CWO membership includes both published and novice writers specializing in fiction, non-fiction, journalism, poetry, and screenwriting.
CWO presently offers, in addition to a free subscription to its online mailing list, a free monthly e-mail newsletter. The Write Stuff, published by National Catholic Register reporter Tim Drake and edited by award-winning author Kathryn Lively, details current calls for submission and news within the Catholic/Christian publishing industry as well as items of interest in the secular publishing industry.
The immediate goal of CWO is to increase awareness of Catholic writing and market the works of its members. Long-term goals of the group include possible alignment with a Catholic organization and/or university, with the hope of sponsoring an annual conference and writing competition for Catholic writers.
Catholic writers interested in joining Catholic Writers Online are invited to visit the organization's website for more information. The CWO website will host links to members' websites and information on books published by members, as well as links to information on the Catholic media.
