A Brooklyn woman has been charged with attempted abortion and assault after prosecutors say she tried to kill the unborn child of her husband’s mistress, and attempted again after the child was born.
38-year-old Kisha Jones was arrested on Friday after detectives say she conceived an elaborate plot to murder the child of Monique Hunter, 25, who was seven months’ pregnant with a baby thought to be conceived in an affair with Jones’ husband.
Jones allegedly forged a prescription order for the labor-inducing drug misoprostol and, posing as a staffer at a doctor’s office, convinced Hunter via telephone to take the medicine to ward off Down syndrome for her baby. The drug, which has been known to cause uterine rupture or death when used to induce labor, caused Hunter to prematurely give birth to her baby son.
Later, nurses grew suspicious and called police after bottles delivered for the baby were filled with a poisonous substance instead of breast milk.
Local sources report the baby is in stable condition as of Sunday.
At a court appearance Saturday morning, Jones was arraigned on charges including forgery, possession of stolen property, assault and attempted abortion. The judge ordered Jones back to jail until Dec. 9 and refused a bail request until the baby was taken out of intensive care and his condition determined.
A neighbor told a local news station that Jones had “been in an out of jail” before the arrest.
A spokesman for district attorney Charles J. Hynes declined to explain to LifeSiteNews.com the justification for the charges, and said the case is still under investigation.
