New Catholic Men’s Magazine

House on the Moor Books is pleased to announce the launch of a new magazine for Catholic men. Called the Catholic Men’s Quarterly, this publication seeks to fill a void by providing a general interest men’s magazine for the Catholic market.

Similar to many quality Catholic publications available today in its defense of the Faith against unjust attack, clear and concise explanation of Catholic doctrine, and stories of heroic and saintly Catholics, CMQ is distinguished by its inclusion of other content of interest to men: sports, humor, travel, military history, etc.

The magazine will be enjoyed by practicing Catholic men; however, knowing that there are many fallen-away or lapsed Catholics who have never been exposed to quality Catholic reading, and suspecting that they would not buy into a straight religious magazine, the CMQ has been written with them in mind as well. According to publisher and editor John Moorehouse, “We hope to make a lot of parents and grandparents happy by helping to bring their lost sheep back into the fold.” He also notes that the publication is not a “how to be holy” magazine, though it does include some quality spiritual content. Rather, it endeavors to draw men back to the Church and sacramental life established by Christ.

Regarding the reason for starting the magazine, Moorehouse notes, “Like many others, we at CMQ are tired of hearing the Church we love run down by those who know nothing of her teachings or history. We are sick of seeing our loved ones abandon the Faith of our Fathers because they were not properly catechized, and we are weary of the foolishness that passes for received wisdom today. So we decided to do something about it.” Believing that a tone that is both blunt and humorous works best with men, Moorehouse says that the quarterly will have an attitude of reverence towards “things meriting reverence. After that, all bets are off,” he laughed.

“Not another necktie” is the theme of the next month for CMQ. Father’s Day is fast approaching, and, according to Moorehouse, this unique magazine “makes the perfect gift for the Catholic dad…or son, or brother, or husband or father.” He also notes that new subscribers can receive a free children’s book with their order (see website for details www.houseonthemoor.com).

Unlike any other publication out there today, the Catholic Men’s Quarterly is published in the hopes of re-energizing the faith of Catholic men during this time of scandal. “This is a great time to be a Catholic man,” said Moorehouse. “But then again, any time is a great time. After all, as the writer Walker Percy said when asked why he became Catholic, ‘What else is there?’”

The Catholic Men’s Quarterly is published four times per year. To subscribe: Make check for $16 out to House on the Moor Books and mail to:
