Marriage in God’s Plan!

Genesis 2:24

Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they become one flesh.

God calls everything "good" in Genesis right up until he creates a lonely guy.  Then he says, "It is not good for man to be alone."  Why is it not good?  Because we are in he image of God and God is not alone: he exists as a Trinity of persons who exist eternally in love.  So we who are in his image are also made for community and love.  Marriage is the great sign of that reality.  It is for our good, of course, and especially for the good of our children.  But just as bread is both food for the body and (in the Eucharist) a miraculous food for the soul, so marriage is, in Christ, not merely a convenient socio-economic arrangement, but is a supernatural sign and means of grace to the whole world.  For it mirrors the Cosmic Marriage between Christ the Groom and his Bride, the Church.  Today, thank God for the sacrament of Marriage.  Whether you are married or not, the sign is for the whole world to read.
