"The early media coverage of the criminal complaint against Planned Parenthood in Kansas has focused on the politics of the situation," said Andrew Flusche, JD, legal researcher at American Life League. "Lost in all the hoopla is the fact that a district judge found probable cause that Planned Parenthood broke the law. These charges should be pursued carefully and reasonably."
The Johnson County Kansas district attorney filed 107 criminal charges against Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri. The charges include 23 felony counts of making a false information, multiple counts of failure to maintain records and 29 counts of performing unlawful late-term abortions.
Johnson County district judge James F. Vano spent eight hours examining the complaint, and found that there was probable cause crimes have been committed by Planned Parenthood. Over 1,000 pages of documents were filed by the district attorney as evidence behind the complaint.
"American Life League urges a thorough investigation of these substantial charges against Planned Parenthood," Flusche said. "There is evidence to support charges of criminal wrongdoing against Planned Parenthood. The state of Kansas has an obligation to its women and children to protect their safety and well-being. Planned Parenthood will try to deflect attention by making this a case of politics. It is not. It is time Planned Parenthood is held legally accountable for its actions."
