Feast of the Guardian Angels

Guardian Angels

The Feast of the Guardian Angels, celebrated on October 2nd, honors the belief that God assigns an angel to watch over each person, offering guidance, protection, and help in our journey through life. This tradition, deeply rooted in Scripture, reflects God’s love and care for humanity. Psalm 91:11 tells us, “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways,” highlighting the role of angels as protectors.

From a young age, many Catholics are taught about their Guardian Angel, often through prayers like the “Angel of God” prayer. These angels are more than distant heavenly beings; they are active participants in our lives, guiding us toward good and helping us avoid evil. The Feast of the Guardian Angels reminds us of the constant care and presence of these heavenly beings, whose mission is to help us reach Heaven.

Practical Lessons:

  • Lesson 1: Remember You Are Never Alone: In the busyness and challenges of everyday life, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or isolated. Guardian Angels remind us that we are never truly alone, even in our darkest or most stressful moments. When you’re feeling anxious or unsure, pause and ask for your Guardian Angel’s help. This small act can offer comfort and peace, helping you feel supported in tough times.
  • Lesson 2: Stay Alert to Goodness: Just as our Guardian Angels guide us toward the right path, we can cultivate awareness of the small nudges or inspirations we get in daily life. Whether it’s an inner sense to reach out to someone in need, avoid a bad choice, or offer a kind word, these moments could be the influence of your Guardian Angel. Start each day asking for your angel’s guidance to help you make better decisions in all your interactions.

Prayer to the Guardian Angel:

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom God’s love commits me here,
Ever this day, be at my side,
To light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.
