Since spring of 2006, Catholic faith and parenting web site www.catholicmom.com has been pleased to offer a home to the Puppet Show Ministry of Catholic writer Lisa Mladinich. We recognize the wonderful value of offering free puppet show scripts to families and teachers to supplement the traditional religious education curriculum. Feedback on the new ministry has been very positive, with scripts being downloaded and performed across the country and overseas.
Author Lisa Mladinich shares the following about her ministry: “I wrote the scripts in the course of the school year to help me keep the attention of the twenty-three children (50% boys) in my daughter’s first-grade religion class. The children came to class in our parish center at 4:15 pm, exhausted and wired from a day in the confines of school. I ran the classes like children’s parties, (with the exception of a weekly decade of the rosary, during which absolute reverence was required), using art, music, movement and acting work (improvising Bible stories together) to make the lessons memorable. The weekly puppet shows were always the highlight of every lesson. Some of these scripts were adapted from virtue-oriented character development scripts I had written previously, but most were written with specific Catholic lessons in mind.”
The puppet show script themes include the Church’s liturgical calendar, gospel themes and values, virtues, saints, the sacraments and more. Scripts are available for free download at www.catholicmom.com/puppet, with new scripts being added frequently.
This month, CatholicMom.com will begin offering Spanish translations of several of the Puppet Ministry scripts. We are overjoyed to welcome Maria Rivera to our free puppet ministry. Maria is a professional translator and has agreed to begin work on Lisa’s scripts.
