Following Bishops, Catholic Charities USA Pulls out of Pro-Kagan Group

Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) has quietly pulled out of a pro-abortion, pro-homosexuality group after it was revealed that the organization, which also numbered the U.S. bishops among its members, had published a video advertisement endorsing pro-abortion Supreme Court candidate Elena Kagan.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) had pulled out of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights (LCCR) shortly after Deal Hudson of Inside Catholic and LifeSiteNews.com revealed the affiliation earlier this month. LCCR was also found to have extensively lobbied in favor of abortion and same-sex “marriage,” as published plainly on its website.

In a statement sent to LSN by Sister Mary Ann Walsh, USCCB Director of Media Relations, the bishops stated that “the interests of the Leadership Conference and those of the USCCB have diverged as the LCCR has moved beyond advocacy of traditional civil rights to advocacy of positions which do not reflect the principles and policies of the bishops’ Conference.”

A request for comment from Catholic Charities USA by LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) was unanswered as of press time.

Hudson, who discovered that CCUSA was no longer listed on the LCCR’s Web site as a member, welcomed the news that the charitable group followed the bishops’ example.

“Faithful Catholics will be able to know their annual donations to Catholic Charities are no longer being used to support an activist agenda. We hope the bishops and Catholic Charities the positions of all their coalition partners and continue to take the appropriate action,” Hudson told LSN.
