Democrats for Life Group Issues “Top Ten List” Against John Kerry

Florida Democrats for Life of America, Inc. (Florida DFLA), an affiliate of Democrats for Life of America, Inc., would like to offer our “Top Ten” reasons why we cannot endorse John Kerry for President of the United States.

1. Florida DFLA is committed to advancing the right to life in the Democratic Party. John Kerry is not. Proof: John Kerry is the first presidential candidate ever to be endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund which boasts that “John Kerry's support for a woman's right to choose has never wavered.”

2. Florida DFLA is committed to advocating for pro-life legislation and government policies. John Kerry is not. Proof: John Kerry says he personally believes life begins at conception, but an “article of faith” should not translate into public policy.

3. Florida DFLA is committed to preserving the dignity of the human person. John Kerry is not. Proof: John Kerry has promised to reverse regulations that prevent the National Institutes of Health from funding research on “cell-nucleus-transfer techniques” (in other words, human cloning for the purposes of biomedical research).

4. Florida DFLA is committed to promoting public awareness of all issues surrounding fetal tissue research. John Kerry is not. Proof: John Kerry voted against the ban on fetal tissue research from abortions and the disclosure of fetal tissue research from abortions.

5. Florida DFLA is committed to reducing the number of abortions by ensuring that parents have the right to know when a minor child is seeking an abortion. John Kerry is not. Proof: John Kerry has voted at least three times against requiring parental notification.

6. Florida DFLA is committed to promoting positive assistance to developing third-world nations which helps to lift families out of their poverty. John Kerry is not. Proof: John Kerry has promised to reverse the Mexico City Policy as his first executive order. This action will provide organizations with taxpayer money to promote abortion, birth control, and forced sterilization in nations where America wishes to “control” population growth.

7. Florida DFLA is committed to supporting the appointment of judges who will interpret the Constitution without first having to submit to the Roe v. Wade litmus test. John Kerry is not. Proof: John Kerry stated he would only support nominees who pledge to uphold Roe v. Wade.

8. Florida DFLA is committed to reducing the number of abortions in America (4,000 surgical abortions every day). John Kerry is not. Proof: John Kerry said he would vote against “any restrictions on age, consent, funding restrictions, or any law to limit access to abortion.”

9. Florida DFLA is committed to ending the heinous procedure of partial-birth abortion in which a fetus is forcibly turned to the breach position, delivered all but the head, then killed by piercing the back of the skull. John Kerry is not. Proof: John Kerry has voted at least six times against banning partial-birth abortion.

10. Florida DFLA is committed to a consistent ethic of life to natural death. John Kerry is not. Proof: John Kerry stated that he could support assisted suicide if the patient, doctor, and family agreed “death might be appropriate.”

Florida DFLA is committed to identifying and promoting Democratic candidates and electing officials who support the right to life. Because of his past voting record and public pronouncements regarding, but not limited to, all the above issues, John Kerry has disqualified himself from receiving our endorsement. Florida Democrats for Life of America, Inc., can only remain true to its convictions by urging Floridians to vote “ABK” — Anybody But Kerry!

More information about Florida Democrats for Life of America, Inc.:

Florida DFLA was incorporated with the State of Florida on February 23, 2004. Currently there are 32 state affiliates of Democrats for Life of America, Inc. across the nation. DFLA was formed in the late 1990s in response to a growing concern that the Democratic Party has become a party of special interests at the expense of the most vulnerable in society.

We invite you to visit our website at www.floridadfla.org. Florida DFLA has officially begun our search for pro-life Democrats residing in the state of Florida. We believe that our government cannot effectively serve its citizens unless it first protects the basic rights of ALL human beings — born or unborn, young or old, healthy or sick, free or imprisoned. We believe that a consistent ethic of life philosophy embodies the true spirit of America. So many of us who are loyal to the time-honored principles of the Democratic Party feel as if the party has sold its soul to those who place “choice” and “property” rights above the dignity of human life. America will only weaken its moral foundation if it continues to categorize human beings as those deserving of life and others, undeserving.

DFLA believes that the conscience of the Democratic Party may be lost, but it is not forgotten. Over the past 20 years, the Democratic Party has gradually adopted a position that no longer represents the majority opinion in this country when it comes to life issues. For instance, the current leadership of the Democratic Party is overwhelmingly in favor of a woman’s right to have an abortion without any restrictions whatsoever. Most recently, the Democratic Party has become the champion of embryonic stem-cell research — a totally unproven science that is being thrust upon the American public without full disclosure that it utilizes the process of human cloning. These causes are not only contrary to public opinion polls, but DFLA believes it is offensive to Democrats who hold to traditional values.

We believe the Democratic Party is committing political suicide by refusing to let go of its extreme position on the life issues. Our culture needs to move toward one that respects human life if we are to achieve the goals that the Democrats claim to hold dear to their hearts: health care, education, retirement security, safe and secure working conditions, and a clean environment. The current climate of the Democratic Party is one that devalues basic human rights. Florida DFLA is asking for your support as we attempt to restore voter confidence in the Democratic Party so that we all might work for the good of all people.
