Breast Cancer Group Ridicules Abortion Breast Cancer Link with “Award”

The National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) has nominated the Coalition on Abortion and Breast Cancer (CABC) for its “Golden Boob” award. The “award” is a facetious double entendre intended to chastise “those whose frivolous or futile actions or initiatives actually undermine this critical mission.”

“The Golden Boob Award is our way of shining a light on efforts that misrepresent the truth about breast cancer to push a different agenda,” stated Fran Visco, president of the NBCC.

NBCC has singled out CABC for, they allege, using the medical link between abortion and heightened incidence of breast cancer as a “scare tactic” political tool in the fight against legalized abortion.

“By spreading false medical information, ABC misleads the public and creates needless anxiety for women who may have had abortions. Their attacks on the work of national organizations and research institutions dangerously undermine efforts to find the true causes, prevention, and cures for breast cancer.”

NBCC reasserts the claim of the abortion industry that “the largest and most reliable research studies have found that no such link exists.”

The CABC has responded that the “award” is “very offensive” and says NBCC is withholding vital medical information because it shares with most of the medical research community a well-documented bias in favor of abortion.

Bethanie Swendsen, spokesman for the Family Research Council, told Cybercast News Service the “the science is there,” but the NBCC is “just not willing to look at it.”

The bias in favor of abortion does not end with researchers, moreover. In 2005, LifeSiteNews.com reported that one of the largest breast cancer research foundations in the US was donating handsomely to Planned Parenthood, the world's largest commercial abortionists.

The Komen Foundation &#0151 famous for its annual “Race for the Cure” cancer research fundraising event &#0151 gave $475,000 to Planned Parenthood in 2003.

Karen Malec, CABC president has called on NBCC to defend itself publicly. Malec said, “We challenge [the National Breast Cancer Coalition] to a public debate on the link &#0151 our experts versus their experts.”
