Bishop Yanta Requests Prayer in Churches during the KKK Rally in Amarillo

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

As I'm sure you know from the news media the Ku Klux Klan is planning an anti-immigration demonstration here in Amarillo for August 5.

The City of Amarillo had to issue a permit to allow their demonstration but there is a very real concern that if there is a counter protest some sort of violence could result.

As a peaceful alternative I would ask that our Catholic faithful, as well as all Christians and people of good will, go to their churches on August 5 from 3-5 p.m. for Holy Hours and prayer vigils for peace and justice in our world.

I ask you to pray that we can all be as one and that our leaders in Congress will find ways to deal with our immigration system and laws in a just manner that reflect the Gospel and Christian values.

Sincerely in Christ,

Most Rev. John W. Yanta

Bishop of Amarillo
