In our modern day world, the youth play an essential role in society. They are the ones the media, music, and culture aim to please. Companies around the world that market everday items from fashion, to technology, to soft drinks are making billions of dollars because of today's teenagers. The reason is quite clear: these companies aim to please and give the young men and women what they want, or at least what they think they want. Society today has swayed youth to believe what they want is that which is materialistic and pleasurable to our physical bodies; springing from this philosophy is what is known as the "Culture of Death".
The first step to bringing about a "Culture of Life" is understanding why it became the "Culture of Death." Satan works very hard and makes the meek and vulnerable some of his first victims; unfortunately, the youth fall into this group. Since the adolescent period is a time of changing and self-discovery, teens can be very easily influenced by anything. Modern day culture can affect everyone, and teen are especially prone because of their vulnerability. The devil has used this to his advantage. Because this group were targeted and became instigators of the "Culture of Death", it becomes all the more up to them to turn it around into the "Culture of Life".
So what must the modern day youth do to bring about the "Culture of Life"? The first thing is to turn to Our Lord Jesus in prayer and to really try to understand what His will might be. Only with God on our side can we hope to accomplish anything. Today's youth must prove to the secular world the strength that they posses to stand up for life. They must realize the world looks at them as vulnerable and should use that to their advantage, in the sense that they are not going to act as they are expected to act and therefore will make more of a statement because they are doing something different and unexpected.
One example is praying the rosary in front of the abortion clinic and holding up signs saying it is murder. People will be shocked that youth are believing and doing these things because they think that these teenagers are supposed to be the ones drawn into abortion. They are not the ones who are supposed to believe there is life inside the womb before birth. If more youth take a stand against things like abortion and birth control then places like Plant Parenthood will be run out of business because they target young girls. That brings us to the second thing we must do in the battle for life. Those of us teens who have an understanding of the "Culture of Death" and the fact that teens are targets for sin, must spread this news and instruct those who don't know and who are ignorant of these things, but always with God and through prayer. The last thing all the youth can do is realize what God has gifted us with and use those gifts, whether they are speaking, writing, teaching, drawing, or music, to spread God's word and bring about once again a "Culture of Life".
