Blessed John Dominici was born around 1355 in Florence, Italy. Although he initially struggled with his education due to a speech impediment, he entered the Dominican Order in his late teens and overcame these difficulties through perseverance and prayer. As a Dominican friar, he became known for his deep piety, powerful preaching, and dedication to Church reform. He worked closely with St. Catherine of Siena and played a key role in restoring discipline and learning in religious communities during a time of spiritual and political unrest in the Church. Later appointed Archbishop of Ragusa (modern-day Dubrovnik) and eventually made a cardinal by Pope Gregory XII, he remained a tireless defender of the papacy during the Great Western Schism. Blessed John Dominici died in Hungary in 1419 while on a papal mission of peace and unity.
