St. Thorfinn was a Norwegian bishop who lived in the 13th century. Born in Trondheim, he became Bishop of Hamar around 1278, a time when Norway was experiencing conflict between the Church and the crown. Thorfinn sided with the Archbishop of Nidaros in defending the rights and freedom of the Church, even when it meant exile from his homeland. He was known for his deep faith, humility, and commitment to truth despite political pressures. Forced to leave Norway, he traveled to Flanders, where he lived in a Cistercian monastery at Ter Doest near Bruges. There, his holiness and simplicity of life deeply impressed the monks. St. Thorfinn died in 1285, remembered as a faithful shepherd who endured hardship for the sake of Christ and His Church.
