St. Magdalene of Canossa was born in 1774 into a noble family in Verona, Italy. Refusing a life of luxury, she left her family palace and began working among the sick, poor, and uneducated.
In 1808, she founded the Daughters of Charity, a religious institute focused on education, healthcare, and spiritual formation, particularly for girls and women. Her work spread across Italy, and her mission emphasized love in action—offering dignity, compassion, and faith to the most vulnerable. She died in 1835, and her legacy continues through the Canossian Sisters around the world.
