Our Lady of Lourdes

In 1858, Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to the humble young Bernadette, calling the world to prayer, penance, and trust in God’s mercy. From a hidden spring flowed healing for body and soul. Her message reminds us that God works through humility and invites us to seek renewal through prayer, repentance, and compassion for the suffering.

Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to St. Bernadette Soubirous, a poor 14-year-old girl, in 1858 in Lourdes, France. Over the course of 18 apparitions, the Blessed Virgin Mary revealed herself as the Immaculate Conception and urged Bernadette to pray, do penance, and encourage others to come to the spring that had miraculously appeared. Many who visited the spring experienced physical and spiritual healing, and Lourdes became one of the most beloved pilgrimage sites in the world. The message of Our Lady of Lourdes continues to inspire millions to seek God’s grace through prayer, repentance, and acts of faith.

Practical Lessons

  1. Make Time for Prayer Daily: Mary’s message at Lourdes was simple—pray. Set aside even a few minutes each day for the Rosary or silent reflection, bringing your worries and hopes to God.
  2. Embrace Healing in All Forms: While Lourdes is famous for physical healings, spiritual and emotional healing are just as important. If you are struggling, seek the Sacrament of Reconciliation, counseling, or time for rest and renewal.
  3. Show Kindness to the Sick and Suffering: Many travel to Lourdes seeking comfort in illness. In everyday life, we can bring Lourdes to others by checking in on a sick friend, visiting the elderly, or supporting someone facing struggles.

Prayer

Our Lady of Lourdes, you appeared to St. Bernadette to bring a message of prayer, penance, and healing. Through your intercession, help us to trust in God’s mercy, seek healing in body and soul, and show compassion to those in need. Guide us to follow your example of humility and love, always pointing us toward your Son, Jesus. Amen.
