Transfiguration of Our Lord

The Transfiguration of Our Lord is one of the most powerful moments in the Gospels. Jesus took Peter, James, and John with Him up a high mountain—traditionally believed to be Mount Tabor. While praying, His face shone like the sun and His garments became dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appeared, speaking with Him about His coming Passion. The disciples, overwhelmed by the vision, fell to the ground in fear. A bright cloud overshadowed them, and the voice of the Father declared: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” (Matthew 17:5).

This moment revealed Jesus’ divine glory and prepared the disciples for His suffering and death. It was a glimpse of the Resurrection to strengthen their faith when trials came.

Practical Lessons

Make Time for Prayerful Pauses: Just as Jesus took the disciples up the mountain, we need to step away from daily noise. Setting aside even 10 minutes a day for prayer, Scripture reading, or quiet reflection helps us hear God’s voice and see His presence in our lives.
Encourage Faith in Hard Times: The Transfiguration gave the disciples strength to endure the Passion. In our lives, we can hold onto moments when we’ve experienced God’s goodness—answered prayers, supportive friendships, or unexpected blessings—to remind us of His faithfulness when times are difficult.
Listen Before Acting: The Father’s command, “Listen to Him,” reminds us to seek Christ’s guidance before making decisions. In practical terms, this can mean praying before responding to conflict, pausing before sending a tough email, or asking “What would Jesus do here?” in daily choices.

Prayer

O Lord Jesus Christ, at Your Transfiguration the voice of the Father proclaimed You His beloved Son. Help us to listen to You in our daily lives and to follow You faithfully. May we be strengthened by Your glory so that we can carry our crosses with courage and love. Through the intercession of Your Blessed Mother and all the saints, may we one day share in Your eternal glory. Amen.
