St. John Cantius was born in 1390 in Poland and became a priest known for his deep learning and even deeper charity. A professor of theology at the University of Kraków, he was admired for both his brilliant teaching and his personal holiness. Despite his academic success, John lived simply, giving much of his income to the poor and assisting students in need. He was known for his humility, patience, and devotion to prayer, never letting his scholarship become separated from his faith. After a lifetime of service to both the Church and the poor, he died in 1473. Canonized in 1767, St. John Cantius is honored as a patron of teachers, students, and Poland, remembered for uniting intellectual brilliance with practical charity.
