Washington, DC After less than six months on the job, Patricia Ireland was fired as the president of the YWCA. The organization asked Ireland to resign but she refused saying she didn't want to give the impression she was voluntarily leaving. They fired her instead. “I was uncharacteristically speechless,” Ms. Ireland said. “There had been no notice.” Her appointment drew strong criticism from pro-life groups saying that Ireland's tenure at the pro-abortion NOW group made her unqualified to head a Christian organization. The chairwoman of YWCA's National Coordinating Board, Audrey Peeples, said that she had not anticipated the intensity of the criticism surrounding its choice of chief executive. “We have the deepest admiration for Ms. Ireland's dedication to women's issues and social justice, but the YWCA has proved to be the wrong platform for her to advocate for these issues,” Peeples said. YWCA has long been a pro-abortion group and filed a brief in favor of abortion in the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case.

November 6 Vote Likely at United Nations
LifeSiteNews.com has learned from sources at the United Nations that both lobbyists and delegates attending a crucial United Nations Committee meeting on human cloning suspect a vote will be held on the issue at the close of their meeting on November 6.
Deliberations on a proposal to enact a United Nations ban on human cloning have stalled over opposition to a ban on all human cloning by supporters of a Franco-German position asking for a ban on only 'reproductive' cloning. A large majority of nations support the Costa Rican resolution, which seeks a comprehensive ban on human cloning.
The committee again failed to reach consensus after meeting on Oct. 20-21. The last count of support for the total cloning ban saw more than 50 countries supporting it, while some 18 supported only the partial ban.
