Why Not?

by Nick Wilgus

Oh soul, why struggle so

why hesitate, why not jump in?

why not love a little bit?

and seek the lowest place to sit?

why not smile and put at ease?

laugh and tease and shoot the breeze?

why not trust that all God's words

are good enough to heal your hurts?

why not try the Gospel way?

— be one who gives, not one who takes

Oh soul, why struggle so

when God is all you really need?

why throw these pearls to the swine

when heaven's where your heart could be?

Jesus lost his life

yet gained the world

and so much more

why not knock upon his door?

“Do what He tells you,” Mary said,

and water turned into to wine

“Come and see and learn of Me —

I am the way, the truth, the life!”

Oh give it up, this me, me, me

learn to give

— you will receive

If your heart is full of pain

then lose this life

— and life you'll gain

Put your finger in this socket

let yourself be electrified

drain this cup down to the dregs

and let your God be glorified
