Dear Catholic Exchange and Kathleen Rohan,
Thank you for the balanced and comprehensive review of Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life. My wife and I belong to a “faith sharing” small group through friends of ours from a different parish. We've taken the summer off from participating, but the material the group leader chose for discussion over the next couple of months is Warren's book (using Warren's study guide as the basis for discussion). I hadn't read this book by Warren, but I had read (years ago) his Purpose Driven Church. But that was prior to my return to Catholicism.
I forwarded a link to your review to everybody on the small group's emailing list. The group is a mix of a handful of converts and mostly cradle Catholics. I am so relieved that you wrote that review. I would have hated to have spent the entire summer doing damage control as they went through the book. You are absolutely on target about Warren and his Protestant (Southern Baptist to be exact) perspective.
Again, thanks for coming to the rescue.
