The Upside of Division!

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

As the election often show, division is not always pleasant, but it is always revealing. That's why the word of God divides. It divides "a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s foes will be those of his own household" (Matthew 10:35-36). Division is underrated to a certain extent. It's a scandal, to be sure, that the Church is divided from itself. But it's not a scandal that the Church is divided from the world. Nor is inner division within ourselves all bad. It is, rather, a clarion call to make a choice and ask for grace. In this time of division, let the word of God probe your soul and spirit and reveal to you the thoughts and intentions of the heart. How else will you ever know the way out of the conflicts of the world and into the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace?
