Psalm 18:1
I love thee,
O LORD, my strength.
Yesterday’s verse about the Joy of the Lord as our strength. Today’s verse shows the source of that Joy. When we say “God loves you” we are so used to hearing it that it is a platitude that bounces off the ears. But if we could cast the whole thing in some sort of fairy tale or science fiction dress and say, “The invisible Power behind the universe that transcends time and space, invented DNA, created the basis of quantum physics, hurled the Andromeda Galaxy and sustains the entire field of reality is not simply a Force, but a personal being who loves and takes an interest in the personal lives of you and your Uncle Bert and every one else on your block and around the world” then that might get our attention. It is just such a God–the God of Israel–who loves us. And in that love there is strength and joy to carry us right through death.
