Mark 11:9-10
And those who went before and those who followed cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming! Hosanna in the highest!”
Many people have the notion that Christ’s kingdom is some sort of radical discontinuity with everything that came before: as though the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New are not only different Gods, but opposite Gods. But this is false. Pope Pius XII tells Christians they are “spiritual Semites.” And the Christ is none other than the “Son of David.” Indeed, the kingdom of Christ is nothing other than the fulfillment and completion of the kingdom of David: a eucharistic kingdom wherein the Son of David gives Himself for the life of Israel and the world. It is truly the “kingdom of our father David” as well as of our Heavenly Father.
