The Ruler of All!

Wisdom of Solomon 15:1
But thou, our God, art kind and true,
patient, and ruling all things in mercy.

One thing that is often difficult for us to really believe is that God is really sovereign over “all things.”  We tend to divide reality up into religious and secular spheres and pay a sort of lip service to God’s lordship over things outside Church and on days other than Sunday.  Sure, God is in control of “eternity” or the sacraments or things like that, but we really tend to forget that God is in control of the busted radiator on the car, or that aggravating bill from the Book of the Month Club that keeps coming back as “unpaid” even though we squared it up with the Customer Service people two months ago.  Nonetheless, it is so.  Nothing happens without God’s knowledge and permission.  And everything that happens is ultimately done in mercy, though we often cannot see that at present.  Today, offer all the circumstances of your life back to God and ask Him to show His purposes in it and how you can best obey Him.
