by Pavel Chichikov
It was said but once,
Once upon a time,
Stars were angel lanterns,
Multitude sublime
And if the angels glowed
With more refulgent light,
Those angels must be so
As to exceed our sight
Light so much intense
It blinds the visible,
Except by luminance
Of which no one can tell
Brighter than the stars
They hold up to the dark,
Creatures of the wars
Of good and evil work
These can never die
Though by creation be,
Secluded from the eye
Of those who cannot see
The world is nearly blind
Except that it can move
The vision of the mind
Toward sacrificial love
And so the world is lost,
Blunders toward a goal –
Homeless the immense
Multitude of souls
