The King of Glory!

Psalm 24:10

Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts,
he is the King of glory!

In a certain sense, today’s verse sums up a huge amount of what we as Christians have to say to the postmodern world.  Most people today are not atheists.  They are, instead, people who have seen God’s fingerprints or stumbled across his footprints or heard a snatch of his voice singing or caught a glimpse of his beautiful face in a crowd, but have not known his name.  Most people today are religious.  They believe in “spirit”, they see or glimpse glory, they love beauty, they long for something they cannot name.  They are often engaged in the project that preoccupied all ancient paganism: the attempt to reach God through the imagination.  To such a project Christianity offers the words of St. Paul: “What you worship as unknown I now proclaim to you.”  Today, try to tell someone you know just who the King of Glory is.  His name is Jesus.
