I don't like to have projects hanging over my head. I like the sense of satisfaction that comes from being able to scratch an item off of my "things to do" list. With big projects, however, the reality is that the tasks might stretch over days or weeks, maybe even months.
One way for me to feel like I have accomplished something is to break a project into smaller steps. I try to set a reasonable goal for how much work I can get done in a day. Admittedly, there are times when life intervenes or the work takes longer than I expected and I don't accomplish as much as I would have liked. Most of the time, however, I can end my work for the day without feeling like a huge weight is still hanging over me, knowing that I have finished what I set out to do.
