“Susan B. Anthony considered abortion a form of oppression and a burden to women. Full equality for women meant the elimination of abortion,” said Jane Abraham, president of the Susan B. Anthony List. “We are proud to continue our namesake's pro-life legacy in the richest way by supporting pro-life women running for public office.”
In Susan B. Anthony's own words, abortion is “child murder.” In her newspaper, The Revolution, Susan B. Anthony wrote, “no matter what the motive, love of ease, or a desire to save from suffering the unborn innocent, the woman is awfully guilty who commits the deed. It will burden her conscience in life, it will burden her soul in death; but oh, thrice guilty is he who…drove her to the desperation which impelled her to the crime!”
“Susan B. Anthony was a champion for the dignity and rights for all. This position was seamless, so she felt strongly that unborn children should also be protected, and by virtue, that this was a truly pro-woman position,” Abraham said.
Susan B. Anthony List is a not-for-profit membership organization with a connected political action committee (SBA List Candidate Fund) dedicated to training pro-life activists and candidates, advocating the passage of pro-life legislation in Congress, working to dispel the myths about abortion, and increasing the percentage of pro-life women in Congress.
