If you look ahead on your calendar, you will note that we celebrate a certain holiday on Sunday along with the Sixth Sunday of Easter. Being one of the few moms here at CEOT, I feel compelled to give a little reminder to those who have moms that a bit of planning is in order this week, especially if your mom lives out of town.
Most of the moms I know don't require or prefer a big gift for Mother's Day – what they want is a loving acknowledgment from their children. My favorite Mother's Days have been spent with my own mother or mother in law, enjoying a homemade brunch after Sunday mass. I love the construction paper cards, the gifts made in second grade, and the extra hugs. I love the paper plates that mean I have a day without dishwashing and the gift certificate for time in a bubble bath. Most of all, I love having a small break to stop, savor, and thank God for the joy of being a mother.
Mother's Day is Sunday – if Mom lives out of town put a card in the mail for her today. If she lives in town, call her today to make plans to get together. (Calling today indicates forethought and care). If you are a dad, help your young children craft a small plan for how they will express their love to their mother.
And don't worry, I'll remind you in June about that other holiday we have coming up!
