Back on the topic of accomplishing our dreams, last Sunday's Parade Magazine offered a concise yet thought provoking article entitled How to Set Goals – And Reach Them.
I found it interesting that the author brought up the point of periodically re-examining our goals to determine their relevance. It's true that the aspirations I now hold as a 43 year old wife and mother vary greatly from the dreams of that 20 year old Notre Dame student I used to know back in the day.
Author Joy Browne writes:
Embrace change. The world changes and, mercifully, we are not the same people we once were. Our goals remind us of what we dare to wish for and will work to accomplish. They are the milestones by which we assess our growth, progress and transformations.
Another challenge I face at this point in my life is not imposing my personal goals upon my children – my role as mother is not to plan their entire lives for them, but rather to provide them with a faith-filled, loving environment and give them the tools they need in life to reach their own goals.
