Remnant and the End Times

Dear Catholic Exchange,

There is a growing belief in certain parts of Christianity, especially as it relates to last things, that a special “remnant” has been preserved and protected by God. This remnant has been given “secret knowledge” about the signs of the times, and everyone else will be led astray by the antichrist. I know that this is contrary to God’s nature and that He desires all to know Him. What passages in Scripture and/or the Catechism do you recommend to refute this thinking?

Ms. Eccleston

Dear Ms. Eccleston,

Peace in Christ!

It is difficult for me to give you a very specific answer dealing with this idea of “remnant” because I am not sure from your e-mail where this teaching is coming from, who is advocating this, and what precisely they are saying. See the faith fact, Apocalypse Not Now — The Church, The Millennium, and The Rapture , regarding Catholic belief concerning the end times and the Second Coming of Jesus. If this does not answer your question fully please feel free to e-mail again with more specifics.

Please feel free to call us at 1-800-MY FAITH (693-2484) or email us with any further questions on this or any other subject.
