Dear Catholic Exchange,
Would it be better to never hear the Gospel of Jesus rather than hear it and reject it?
Thank you,
Mr. Mangano
Dear Mr. Mangano,
Thank you for your question regarding the Gospel of Jesus and whether it is better to have never heard it or to have heard it and rejected it.
In response, please see our FAITH FACT on salvation outside the Church, which can be found at Without the Church There Is No Salvation. I would particularly point you to the section entitled Magisterial Pronouncements, and the phrase, “invincible ignorance.” I believe that for our purposes we can use synonymously the words, “Gospel of Jesus,” and “knowledge of the truth.”
I hope that this information is helpful. If you have further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to call Information Services at 1-800-MY-FAITH. We offer this service to everyone entirely free of charge, and would appreciate any support, through prayers and donations, you could give us to help others.
