[The following two viewer letters are in regard to Fr. William Saunders's “He Descended into Hell” and Claire M. O’Neill's “The Apostles' Creed in Public and Private Worship.”]
Dear Catholic Exchange,
Please convey my thanks to Claire O’Neill for her definitive article on the wording of the Apostles’ Creed. She clearly has no agenda, be it liberal or conservative (boy, I hate those labels!), but simply wants to think and act with the Church. Moreover, she has done her catechetical homework to make sure she is with the Church on this matter.
I respect and trust the writers of CE’s daily “lead articles” so much that I rarely take exception to anything I read therein. Fr. Saunders in particular has always been a favorite, and I’ve saved many of his CE articles for future reference. That’s why I was nonplussed by his phrase about “tampering” in his recent article on the subject of the Creed. I’m glad that Ms. O’Neill came along to clarify this subject, and I’m sure Fr. Saunders, as the good and upright priest he appears to be, is glad, too.
Continued blessings on Catholic Exchange.
A devoted donor and reader,

Dear Catholic Exchange,
Just a quick thank you for publishing Claire O'Neill's article “The Apostles’ Creed in Public and Private Worship.” I was quite distressed with Fr. Saunders’s article, to which Mrs. O’Neill refers, which failed to address the difference in the meaning of the words (perhaps not the intent of his writing, but certainly necessary to the subject). I am well aware that Fr. Saunders was working under space constraints, but this needed to be said outright. I’m grateful for Mrs. O’Neill’s well-phrased and magisterially correct expansion. Heaven knows that most of us, who learned the Creed by rote, repeat it by rote without ever hearing what we’ve said, and then wonder why non-believers look at us as though we’re certifiable.
Thank you, Mrs. O’Neill.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Carol Luscomb
