Psalm 1

By Pavel Chichikov

for Alexander Pruss

Trees that God has planted by a stream

Are fruitful ones that ripen by His pleasure,

God's breath recites the Torah in their leaves –

They never lose the greenness of His summer

Favored is the one who loves the Lord

And blossoms in His orchard day and night,

Righteousness an everflowing stream –

The river of the Lord is Man's delight

Travelers who take a blessed way

Are those who find contentment in His codes,

They never wander wickedly astray

Like evil ones who keep to evil roads

God pronounces judgement from His seat

He winnows and the chaff is blown away,

Straw shall never stand up like the wheat

Nor sin be ever equal to that day

But righteous men assemble in His heart

And never from His righteousness depart
