Spring means travel season for me – during the month of May I have three separate trips planned, meaning lots of time spent waiting in gate areas at airports. I just spent the past weekend in lovely Gulfport, Mississippi at the First Communion of my precious nephew Patrick.
All of this waiting time has me thinking about ways to be productive while we wait. Anticipating that I would have time at gates between connections, I tried to plan ahead to accomplish a few tasks that have been hanging around for the past month. On the way to Gulfport on Friday, I was able to study the users guide for my new cell phone and master some of its higher tech features. Had I been home, I likely would have foregone the users guide and would never have known that my cell phone doubles as a PDA that can easily be synced with my computer.
Here's a quick list of items I came up with that can be accomplished while waiting for a connection:
>Head to the airport chapel for a Rosary during Mary's month of May, remembering to pray for our troops and for peace in our world.
>Fit in a two mile walk – I make sure to stay close by my gate by walking in a circular pattern in the event of gate changes
>Read users manuals for cell phone, camera, or other high tech gadgets
>Organize and edit recent photos on my laptop
>Write letters to my homebound grandparents or other friends I may have lost contact with recently
>Chat with co-passengers – On my outbound trip I met two lovely Mennonite missionaries who inspired me to inquire about service opportunities in my own hometown
>Read a good book that's been on my list
>And, of course, my favorite: here in Gulfport they offer free (unsecured) wireless internet, so I can catch up on my blogging!
