(AgapePress) – A leading pro-life advocate says pro-abortion groups have stepped up their efforts to stop President George W. Bush from making American culture a place where the unborn are protected in law and welcomed in life.
Probably the most overlooked aspect of Bush's victory over former Vice President Al Gore is the filling of vacancies on the U.S. Supreme Court. Janet Folger of the Center for Reclaiming America says if Gore had won, then there would be no chance of saving children from abortion in our lifetime.
Folger says the recent Presidential election was really about the Supreme Court. She says pro-abortion groups know this, and are working furiously to block pro-life nominees. She says the pro-life community must seize this opportunity.
“The National Abortion Rights Action League is spending forty million dollars in the next four years on television ads,” Folger says. “We're seeing [that] these 'People for the so-called American Way' have pledged to 'bork' any candidate … nominated [who] is pro-life. What we have before us is the opportunity of our lifetime. We must take it.”
Folger says it is up to the pro-life community to petition President Bush to make sure he nominates justices who are truly pro-life. “We must fill every single vacancy to the Supreme Court. Not just, 'We might get a good one here or there.' No we must fill every single vacancy with a justice who will protect life, or we won't see children protected in our lifetime,” she says.
Folger says the lives of tens of millions of innocent babies are at stake. With that in mind, her group has been working during the past months to unite with numerous other pro-life organizations to launch the “Shake the Nation Back to Life” campaign. The campaign, designed in part in response to NARAL's pro-abortion advertising blitz, has several other objectives: to encourage President Bush to nominate pro-life justices, to demonstrate to the U.S. Senate that millions of Americans support confirmation of those nominations, and to encourage the pro-life community.
One element of the “Shake the Nation” campaign involves the coordinated delivery of thousands of baby rattles to each U.S. Senator. Folger's organization hopes those rattles will deliver a clear message that abortion involves ending the life of a baby.
