(AgapePress) – Some of the world's leading pro-life speakers will come together for a unique conference to educate and inspire those working for the sanctity of human life.
Pro-life activists from around the globe will gather in Bloomington, Minnesota, in June for the Celebration of Life World Family Conference. American Life League spokesman Jim Sedlak says the intention is to bring together some of the finest pro-life speakers available to talk about the latest advances in the pro-life movement.
Sedlak says the conference will “bring people the pro-life message [and] the details on the emerging technology” in the pro-life arena. He states there will be sessions on topics such as bioethics, the human gnome project, and cloning.
“Essentially the conference is intended to educate and inspire the pro-life community to move forward and to regain the United States for God and for the sanctity of life,” he says.
Bishop John Yanta of Amarillo, Texas, who is considered one of the preeminent pro-life ambassadors of the Catholic church, will open the conference. Other speakers scheduled include Judie Brown, president and founder of the American Life League; Steven Mosher, president of the Population Research Institute; Rev. Johnny Hunter, national director of the black pro-life organization, Life Education and Resources Network; and former abortionist Dr. Bernard Nathanson.
While pro-lifers anticipate the gathering in Minnesota, advocates in Montana are reeling in the wake of a major setback: the defeat of an important piece of pro-life legislation. In an emotional vote that saw several pro-life senators cast their first votes against the pro-life position, the Montana Senate voted 30-20 against HB 547 the Fetal Protection Act. The bill would have made it an additional crime if a criminal both assaults a pregnant woman and kills or injures her unborn child in the process.
Montana Right to Life says unfortunately many senators bought lies peddled by pro-abortion groups and legislators that HB 547 would prosecute doctors or women who have had miscarriages despite clearly worded exceptions found in the bill indicating that would not be the case.
Keyes Critical of Bush’s Stand on RU-486
by Bill Fancher
WASHINGTON, DC (AgapePress) – The Bush Administration’s reluctance to take action on the abortion drug RU-486 has drawn criticism from pro-lifers.
Former Presidential candidate Alan Keyes says RU-486 represents more than just a method of chemical abortion.
“RU-486 is a drug that takes the child’s life in the first weeks; that in principle destroys and vitiates our commitment to the idea that rights come from God; that substitutes for that principle the notion that our claim to rights is based on human choice; that destroys, therefore, the principled essence of American self-government and American disciplined liberty,” Keyes says.
Keyes calls RU-486 the chemical equivalent of Roe v. Wade, and he says it is an evil that must be recognized and stopped.
“[Our President] takes the bad stand, and because we fear the evil that stands behind him, we accept the quiet surrender to evil that he represents,” he says. “Hard things to say. Having said them, don’t expect to see me in a Bush Administration.”
Keyes says our rights are not derived from a mother’s choice, despite what our culture says today. He feels the Bush Administration’s lack of action reveals more about the President’s beliefs than any amount of pro-life rhetoric.
