Pro-Life Advocates Oppose New Abortion Facility Outside Chicago

Glen Ellyn, IL — Representatives of about 400 people present opposed to the possibility of an abortion facility opening in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn implored the Village Board on last week to find some way to stop the abortion business.

The owner of a shuttered emergency medical center at 1186 Roosevelt Rd., Atlanta-Illinois LP, has all the necessary licenses to operate a “birth termination facility,” Village President Greg Mathews said before opening the meeting to one hour of comments. His prepared statement said the village had provided no assistance to the facility and would not prevent it from operating.

But the opponents submitted petitions asking that the abortion facility not be allowed to open.

“I would personally be willing to raise taxes if you could find a way to buy this building and sell it to someone else,” said Rev. Steve Tomlinson, pastor of Parkview Community Church in Glen Ellyn.

“Everyone in this building is here together. We ask that you not let this happen on your watch,” said Barbara Singer, executive director of CareNet Crisis Pregnancy Services of DuPage.

Village Atty. Stewart Diamond said Vinod M. Goyal is listed on the business' incorporation papers as the president of Atlanta-Illinois. The name of the abortion business is AAnchor Health Center Ltd., Diamond said.

After the open session, Mathews could not say what, if any, action might result from the opposition.
