Left-wing and feminist groups are gearing up for what is being called a “nasty and contentious” fight against President Bush's judicial nominees who do not support abortion on demand.
The pro-abortion forces revealed their intentions in documents obtained by The Washington Times. The Ms. Foundation, the National Organization for Women, and the Alliance for Justice all held press conferences two weeks ago to criticize pro-life nominees and coordinate their activities with Democratic senators.
A Senate aide says that Republicans are surprised at the extent to which the abortionist groups are coordinating their efforts with Democratic leaders to stall the confirmations. GOP lawmakers, who have already complained about the stalling tactics of Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, believe the appointments need to go forward in order to help fight the war on terrorism and to serve the American people.
